Gold surrounds us everywhere. Jewelers use the noble metal to create elegant jewelry, engineers use it in industry, and the most far-sighted people purchase gold to protect their savings and achieve Financial Security.
Yet only a few people wonder: when and where did the precious metal originate?
Researchers from the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, Tohoku University and the University of Notre Dame tried to find the answer to this question. Scientists created a detailed simulation of the formation of a galaxy like our Milky Way using the ATERUI II supercomputer.
Modeling processes on a universal scale took several months. After the continuous work, it became possible to find out how many years ago gold-rich stars formed in small galaxies.
