The power of the correctly set goal

GIG-OS

The process of achieving rather obvious goals sometimes brings amazing surprises that can change the course of history. Stories of people mentioned in our article serve as a testament to this.

“Lost” expedition

In October 1492, after three months of tiresome sailing, three Spanish ships finally reached their destination — the islands off the coast of East Asia.

Thus, the most important task — finding a short and safe trade route to Asia through the Atlantic Ocean — was completed. Following that, a continuous stream of exotic goods and jewelry were supposed to flow into Europe.

The sailors and their leader, who later became famous throughout the world, were absolutely right. Europe was really waiting for an influx of an unprecedented amount of treasure.

However, they were wrong about one thing. The lands they discovered had nothing to do with Asia. Those were the surroundings of the continent, which was absent on all maps at that time.

You have probably guessed that we are talking about the expedition of Christopher Columbus. He was looking for a more convenient delivery of goods by sea, and in the end he achieved his goal, simultaneously making a grand discovery. America had become a much more important source of resources for European countries than India and China, and all thanks to the perseverance of one individual.

Medication that saved millions of lives

In 1928, the British microbiologist Alexander Fleming conducted an ordinary experiment to study how the human body resisted pathogenic bacteria. Quite by chance, the scientist discovered that the bacteria left in the laboratory cups were destroyed by mold.

The observation made it possible for Fleming to extract a substance from the mold that counteracted infections — penicillin. The path to success was a long one: a sufficiently stable and fully suitable for mass production sample of penicillin was obtained only in 1940. All this time, Fleming did not give up, continuing to improve the technique of obtaining and using the drug. He had been growing mold for 12 years, sharing samples with other scientists so that they could also produce the valuable substance.

As a result, the first antibiotics were created. Fleming’s discovery was greatly appreciated during the Second World War, when penicillin saved lives of millions of wounded soldiers and civilians. In 1945, the scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize.

This is another striking example of how a person systematically moved towards a goal and achieved the result that he did not even dare to dream of. Sir Fleming did not just discover a new bactericidal drug. That discovery made it possible to cure deadly diseases (tuberculosis, scarlet fever, sepsis and others) effortlessly and quickly.

What do these two stories have in common? Both historical figures had concrete goals. The mariner wanted to simplify the delivery of exotic goods to Europe. The scientist was trying to find a more effective way to combat infections.

Columbus understood that he would need vast resources for a long sea voyage that only very wealthy people could afford. He took turns proposing his idea to influential people in different countries, until the Spanish royal couple supported it.

Fleming understood that to discover a new way to fight disease was possible only through scientific research. Therefore, he meticulously conducted experiments in the laboratory.

Both knew exactly what they wanted to achieve, what was needed for this, and how to get the intended result. They took action, made efforts, did not give up in the face of difficulties, and eventually got the result that far exceeded their original plan.

The latent potential of your goal

Do not think that only prominent figures of the past could be so perseverant, far-sighted and purposeful. Anyone can set a goal correctly, calculate the optimal path to achieve it and succeed. But the question arises: where to start? What should be the first step?

For everyone who wants to find a clear goal in life and begin consciously moving towards it, a special project has been launched on the GIG-OS platform — GOALSET MASTER.

This unique tool for working on the goal will help you to:

  • determine the goal that is really important for you, discarding all that is superfluous and useless;

  • evaluate the resources needed to implement the plan;

  • identify factors that contribute to success or hinder it;

  • outline the most convenient and fastest path to the desired result.

By using GoalSet Master, you can examine your goal from different angles and discover its hidden aspects. Perhaps that goal could be much more significant and more important than you thought.
