[VIDEO] What does fineness on gold jewelry mean?

Anyone who has ever dealt with articles of gold jewelry has noticed that they have numbers engraved in small print. These numbers are called fineness: they indicate the quality and value of the product. The higher the fineness, the higher the gold content in the jewelry.

The fact is that jewelry, for a number of reasons, is rarely made of pure gold. Usually the alloy also includes silver, copper, and sometimes palladium. Such alloying elements give the metal greater strength and make it possible to create gold products of new shades.

There are different systems for determining the fineness, but the most widely used ones are metric and carat. In the first case, the percentage of gold in the alloy is measured in milligrams, in the second — in carats.

So, fineness is the “key” to understanding the quality and value of gold products. Watch the new video and learn how to determine the purity of the precious metal!
